About

I am Kevin, a 50+ middle aged man who has reached a stage in life where I have become reflective over what I have done with my life so far.  Now is the time to start planning and doing (not always my greatest strength in the past!) a challenge that will test me in ways never tested before and to give something back to my chosen cause.

Having read so many blogs of trips and adventures of others, I became interested in one particular one that I am basing my challenge on.

My challenge is a long distance walk of around 1500 miles Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) with a variation to include:

  • The most southerly point of mainland Britain, Lizard Point
  • The most northerly point of mainland Britain, Dunnet Head
  • The highest point in Wales, Mount Snowden (3560 feet)
  • The highest point in England, Scafell Pike (3209 feet)
  • The highest point in Scotland, Ben Nevis (4411 feet)

*Thanks to Adam Dawson (adamswalk.com) for this inspiration.

When looking into which cause to choose to support, one immediately became obvious and personal to me.  Seeing friends and family having cancer and their journey with this disease, some who are still fighting it today and in memory of those whose journey has ended, I will be taking on my challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK, so please donate, if you can, using JustGiving.

I am looking at an 80 day slot to carry out this challenge, final dates still to be confirmed but provisionally looking at 1st August 2017 to complete late October.

Meanwhile planning and training continues where I will be providing blog updates pre-walk and then regular updates, where possible, once the walk commences.

Follow my blog updates here.

It is estimate that by 2030, there will be 4 million people living with cancer (statistics from macmillan.org.uk).

By taking approximately 4 million steps to complete my challenge, I hope that I can do a small part in helping science and research in reducing this number though prevention and for the improved treatment for those living with cancer.
